About Jon Sanchez

A singular perspective on the ocean and light

Jon Sanchez is a French photographer based in Biarritz. His work explores the connections between the ocean, light, and the human presence within the landscape.

Since beginning his photography journey in 2016, he has developed a recognizable visual language rooted in minimalist compositions, balanced horizons, and a keen sensitivity to color. Anchored in the Basque coast, his photographs capture moments of grace and reveal the poetry of familiar landscapes, inviting contemplation.

An intimate bond with the ocean

A surfer, Jon maintains a personal and instinctive relationship with the sea. The time he spends in the water nurtures his understanding of its rhythms, textures, and variations.

The coastline is a constant source of inspiration. A distant silhouette, the curve of a wave, or a fleeting reflection can become the starting point for an image. His gaze focuses on these discreet encounters between movement and stillness, where light gives a moment its unique quality.

The art of simplicity

Jon’s photographs are distinguished by their clean compositions, soothing colors, and a sensitive mastery of natural light. Pastel hues, deep blues, and golden lights create atmospheres where every element finds its place.

Balanced horizons emphasize the harmony between sky and sea, while the negative space reveals the power of details. A human presence in the vastness of the landscape provides scale to the image and offers the eye an anchor point.

This economy of means gives his work its emotional depth. Each photograph invites one to slow down, to look with attention, and to enter a space of contemplation.

An open view of the world

While Biarritz remains at the heart of his practice, Jon’s work extends beyond the Basque coast. His travels and commissioned projects lead him to discover other landscapes and cultures, all while maintaining the visual sensitivity that characterizes his images.

From the Atlantic coastline to the islands of French Polynesia, he approaches each location with the same attention to light, composition, and atmosphere.
